Scavenger

There's a girl who scavanges around the graveyards late at night
Digging up the bodies, of all she’s loved, and all that’s gone
Picking at bare bones, hoping to find something she won’t have to let go
She laments the loss of the love she has known
And wonders how to build a man out of rotting bones
She remembers all the promises she has made,
And wonders if anyone makes it out meaning what they say
Time has made her a liar, and the grass has turned brown
At what age do we all get the hypocrites crown
She is disgusted by the mirror
and will become a martyr for those who wish to see clearer
Spreading the message through the mountains like Jesus
To love is to lose, to love is to lie
All your words will crumble against time’s sharp hand
Ticking forward relentlessly, you won’t always be naive
One day you will be just like me
You will sort through the debris,
Try to pick up the pieces and make yourself believe,
That to love is to learn how to let graves be.
